... I'm not in sunny Andalucia. What little sun did shine in the afternoon, after my arrival, is reflected in some of the pictures below, my first photos of Salamanca.
Salamanca is a city in northwestern Spain. It is situated approximately 200 km (124 mi) west of Madrid and 80 km (50 mi) east of the Portuguese border. Its Old City was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.
It is one of the most important university cities in Spain. The University of Salamanca, founded in 1134, is the oldest university in Spain and the fourth oldest in the Western World, but the first to be given its status by Pope Alexander IV who gave universal validity to its degrees. With its 30,000 students, the university is, together with tourism, a primary source of income in Salamanca.
